Epic Adventure

Ready to tackle a challenge and have fun too? Rev3 has designed this race with beginners to advanced Adventure Racers in mind. The format allows beginner racers to hit the mandatory points and experience the complete adventure alongside nationally ranked adventure racing teams. Advanced teams will need to get all mandatory checkpoints and as many bonus checkpoints as possible in 26 hours for a chance to win and take home the first place prize worth $5,000. To complete the 100+ mile course, teams will need to use their skills in route planning, race strategies, road biking, mountain biking, trail running, and canoeing to tackle the terrain and other obstacles. This will be an adventure of a lifetime.

The Epic is part of the USARA, Checkpoint Tracker and East Coast Adventure Race Series.

The start and finish area are actually located within the Shenandoah River State Park, but you cannot access the start and finish area through the normal park entrance. Directions: From Northern Virginia, take I-66 West to exit 13 (Linden). Turn left off the ramp. Go one block to a stoplight where you'll take a right onto Rt. 55 West. At the fifth stoplight, turn left onto 340 South. Drive eight miles; the park's entrance is on the right.

    Gear

    Supplied Gear:

    Canoes, paddles, PFD’s, race maps, race passport & list of rules

    Mandatory Gear:

    Prior to race start all teams will be spot checked for mandatory gear. Spot checks will also take place on the course. Any team missing items of mandatory gear will be subject to time penalties and/or disqualification. All Mandatory gear is required to ensure racers have the proper equipment to safely complete the course.

    All times during the race must have on their the following equipment:
    • Pack to carry gear
    • Food
    • Hydration System (Camelbak or equivalent, water bottle)
    • Headlamp with extra batteries
    • Whistle
    • Knife minimum 2.5 inch blade
    • Emergency blanket or bag
    • 1 long sleeve smart wool or Under Armour type insulated top
    • Fleece hat
    • Waterproof jacket
    While biking each racer must also have:
    • Mountain bike (No cross or road bikes allowed)
    • Helmet (CPSC, ANSI, or SNELL certified)
    • Rear light
    • Front light
    Team Gear:
    • Bike tool kit and at least one spare bike tube
    • Compass
    • Lighter
    • Cell phone
    • Dry bag
    Recommended Gear:
    • Sunglasses, bug spray, sunblock
    • Waterproof map case
    • Map bag for race map and passport
    Medical Kit:

    Teams may use the Adventure Medical Kit Ultralight 0.7 or build their own kit as long as the kit contains the following listed required contents. (8) 2x2 or 3x3 sterile dressing, (2) 3x4 non adherent sterile dressing, (1) conforming gauze bandage, (4) 1x3 adhesive bandage, (3) knuckle adhesive bandage, (1) tape ½”x 10 yards, (1) swift wrap elastic bandage, (8) 200mg. Ibuprofen, (2) antihistamine (Diphenhydramine), (2) afterbite sting relief, (1) moleskin, (5) towelettes, (3) antibiotic ointment, (1) tincture of benzoin, (3) butterfly closure bandage, (2) pair nitrile gloves, (1) tweezer, (3) safety pins, (1) duct tape, (2) alosak.
